Things to do in Somerset.

Hi everyone! Today I thought I’d share with you some of Somerset’s top attractions. Some of you may know that I live in Taunton, the county town of Somerset, so I know of lot’s of things to do in the area.

First up are some national trust properties. Even if you’re not a member, you can still pay to go round these sights, and a lot of the time the grounds are free. A couple of my favourites are Barrington Court, which is just down the road from Taunton, and Dunster Castle. Dunster village is also a lovely day out.

Onto a very famous sight, which I’m sure a lot of you will have heard of, Stonehenge. I’ve never been into this attraction, but I’ve seen it countless times from the main road driving past. It’s famous for being one of the countries great wonders, as no-one seems to know how it got there or what it was used for.

Another site worth a visit is Glastonbury Tor. Situated in the town of Glastonbury, this landmark is on top of quite a large hill. It is quite a way up to the top, but is worth it when you get there. There are great views of the surrounding hills and you can read all about the structure inside.

One of my favourite attractions in the county is Longleat Safari Park. I touched briefly on this one in my Best festive days out in the South West post. It is a great safari park, and there is also the walk around zoo, boat trip, train ride and house tour. It really is a great day out.

A great place to visit in Somerset is the city of Bath. One main attraction is the Roman baths which is packed with history, and attached is a great museum too. Also if you’re looking to look around the city, I’d recommend the ‘hop on hop off’ bus that takes you round with an audio tour.

Lastly, Somerset has some lovely beaches. There’s Weston-super-mare on the north coast, as well as Brean and Bossington Beach.

Have you visited any of these places?

Until next time.

  2. I love Somerset but I haven’t explored half of whats on offer. We did go to Stonehenge which I have to say was pretty incredible! Although freezing, its very open and exposed up there!

I’d love to do longleat. We are looking for somewhere to go in a few weeks for my birthday and considered Somerset, But Covid just puts me off booking even though we are being told we can travel, it doesn’t seem right. Maybe next year.

    Thank you for sharing x

  6. Those national trust places look stunning! I’m a member so perhaps I should go along and visit. I’ve been to Bath quite a bit, there’s a lot to do around there, I haven’t been for a while though. I have also been to Weston Super Mare too but a verrry long time ago haha. I think I need to re-visit some of these places again!

  7. My husband and I watched the stream of the sunrise and sunset on Stonehenge for solstice. I’ve never been there in person, but that’s one sight that we would LOVE to experience firsthand someday in the future. That being said, the rest of the attractions that you listed here are new to me, so it was fun to read! I have some ideas for a trip in the future!

  8. Stonehenge is somewhere I really want to visit and it’s on my bucket list of places to visit in the UK. There are some other lovely places to visit too that you’ve mentioned on this post and I’ll be adding them to future visits to Somerset. I’ve never been to Somerset myself but when I do go in the future, I’ll have ideas of where to go thanks to you creating this post 🙂 Thanks again for sharing! It looks beautiful.
