My 6 Favourite Disney Villains!

Happy Halloween! (well, almost).

It’s that time of year where everyone is getting dressed up to go trick or treating or to parties – or this year maybe just dressing up for yourself in the house….No judgement here! One fail safe outfit idea is to dress as a classic Disney villain.

Everyone’s always talking about their favourite Disney princesses -well, maybe not everyone – but what about the bad guys?

Here are my top 6 Disney villains! (I couldn’t cut one out to make 5, so sorry for the random number).

Maleficent – Sleeping Beauty

I really love Maleficent, and after watching the films depicting her own story, I see her in a completely different light. However, the original character in the Sleeping Beauty cartoon has always been a favourite of mine. She just takes no nonsense and is definitely a fighter right up until the end. And some of her skills are amazing, like turning into a dragon!

Hades – Hercules

This guy is so full of sass! He was the originator of “what are those?” (if you know, you know)! Overall a really funny villain who never actually does much of the dirty work for himself. He does turn semi-good in the end when he gives Hercules back his powers, so I wouldn’t call him an evil villain overall.

Prince John – Robin hood

Let’s face it – he’s a bit of a wimp really. He’s quite a humorous character in his own way, and his biggest crime is taxing the poor so no real physical threat. He’s easily defeated but overall, one of my favourite villains.

Mad Madame Mim – Sword in the stone

To be honest, this woman always creeps me out. She’s quite freaky, and when she turns herself into a croc and various things I get the heebies. She is quite funny and reminds me more of a spoilt child than an actual villain.

Gaston – Beauty and the Beast

Toxic masculinity at its finest, am I right? His only villainous trait is jealousy and not realising no means no. He is quite amusing at times and he is one of my favourite villains because of this.

Scar – The Lion King

Scar definitely wins the award for most brutal villain, and he fights to get what he wants in despicable ways. He’s one of my top villains because he’s the only one who I think stays completely evil for barely any reason. A lot of the Disney villains have some underlying story as to why they do these things, and some even turn ‘good’ in the end. But Scar just has no reason to be like this – could he have not left to start his own pride?

Who are your favourite Disney villains, if you have any? Be sure to let me know!

Happy Halloween!

Until next time.

  1. I love Disney princesses, villains and everything in between. Like you I really loved Maleficent’s story in the more recent films.

I really like Gaston too, he has the best song in Beauty and the Beast!

  2. I agree with Scar taking top spot. I just love Jeremy Ironsā€™ voice for him the portrayal was iconic. Scar is evil but so charismatic! My brother actually loved Scar he was his favourite character (yeah my brother was a weird kid lol). Maleficent really scared me as a kid especially when she turned into a dragon. Again, iconic! I think Ursula deserved a mention in this list, she was just downright evil also for no real reason hahaha

  4. I agree with scar! Made me feel angry and cry. Gaston is a good example of someone willing to do anything to get what they want! Thanks for sharing!

  5. I’ve still never seen Hercules but I really enjoy Cheyenne Jackson’s portrayal of Hades in the Descendants 3 movie; for me my personal favourite would have to be Dr Facilier!

  6. I love rooting for a good villain, especially Hades and Scar. I am fond of Cruella de Vil, mainly because I love 101 Dalmatians so much, and you have to have a character that you love to hate. Great post and happy Halloween!

  7. Oh Prince John. He is a funny villain. Robin Hood used to be one of my favourite films as a child.
I can’t remember her name but I like the skinny witch villain in The Emperors New Groove.

  9. I personally think Scar is one of the worst villains ever. He’s just so mean and he’s mean to a freaking BABY. Like Simba is a BABY and he’s SO MEAN TO HIM. It breaks my heart. And I can’t watch The Lion King hahaha. I love Maleficent.

  10. Good picks! Mine are definitely all over the place because some of them I love due to their ferocity – like Scar – and some I love because they’re hilarious – like Hades. I also love Jafar, Mother Gothel, and Yzma!

  11. Yes! The villains are honestly my favourite part of most Disney movies and they are so often overlooked. I love Ursula and Cruella DeVille, they have to be my favourite villains, but there are so many others that would make the list as well.

  12. What a great list! I think my favorite is Scar, I always prefer the villains over the main characters, more so if they have a good story arch

  13. Hades is such a great villain! He was probably the first villain to really make me laugh haha. Scar is a great one too!

  14. There is something to be said for Disney’s portrayal of both villains and heroes. Very distinct feelings and ideals between the two shine through. Maleficent is personally one of my favorites. šŸ™‚
