for the Love of the Land – supporting British farmers (AD)

This post contains an item gifted for review.

Hi everyone! Today I have a gift idea for the aspiring chef in your life, or a treat for yourself if you love to cook! This is the for the Love of the Land cookbook, put together by Jenny Jefferies.

For The Love Of The Land is a cook book to celebrate British farmers and their food, sharing lots of lovely recipes as well as stories and information on different farms around the country.

“Recipes include Blackbrook Beef Bolognese from a traditional lowland farm in Leicestershire, Kentish Lavender Shortbread from Castle Farm and a cocktail featuring fresh edible flowers from Greens of Devon.”

I really enjoyed reading through all the farmers’ stories in this book, and I’ve learnt so much about different farms around the country and what they specialise in. I know that my boyfriend Aaron will love creating some of the recipes in this book, as he is a big meat lover and really enjoys cooking.

One thing I really love about this cookbook is the fact that the dishes focus on making the most out of local and seasonal ingredients. It also encourages sustainable farming and educates people about the farming industry and the passion and hardship that goes with it.

For many families, working the land and raising livestock is a true labour of love, and what they produce is the backbone of the country’s food and drink.

Another great thing about this book is for every copy sold, a proportion of the royalties will be donated to The National Literacy Trust, a charity dedicated to giving disadvantaged children the literacy skills they need to succeed.

Thank-you so much to Jenny for creating this lovely book and sending me out one to review. Make sure you check out the website, as well as their social media (twitter and instagram).

Until next time.

  4. I think it’s so neat that the book includes the tales of the farmers as well as the recipes. What a great combination and I think more cookbooks need to be like this. Great review! I’m certainly wanting to purchase it now.

  5. I like that the book mentions buying/using seasonal produce — that is a great idea, plus it keeps the food interesting and adaptive to what’s available. I know a few of my family and friends back in the UK who will love this book!
