January 2021 Netflix favourites

Hi everyone! It’s a new year, and we’ve been plunged back into lockdown, which means one thing….. another Netflix favourites post! I know we’re not all the way through the month yet, but being off work means I can binge watch so many shows on Netflix, and I’ve discovered a few new things recently so I thought why not share them with you all!?

Bridgerton

Firstly, if you have not jumped on the Bridgerton hype, you are definitely in the minority. Everyone and their mum’s have been talking about this show, and it did not disappoint! I finished this within 24 hours, and as soon as I finished it I wanted to start it again. This show ticks so many boxes – it’s funny, it’s got a captivating storyline and the diversity of the actors is brilliant. Definitely give it a watch if you haven’t already. It has a Gossip Girl type element to it which I really enjoyed, but that isn’t the main story line.

Gossip Girl

Speaking of Gossip Girl, I was onto season 6 of re-watching it for the millionth time, however Netflix has decided to remove it so I can’t finish it. This is one of my favourite shows so I will likely track down the boxset of it soon!

New Girl

I used to watch this back in the day, so I decided to start it from the beginning again and I fell in love. I had only previously seen a few seasons of this show so it was really nice to see how it ended. It’s such an easy thing to watch while you’re getting ready or doing other things, and I find the characters are all accessible and easy to relate to.

Once Upon a Time

This is a very new discovery, and I’m currently only a few episodes into it. After finishing Bridgerton, I needed another show to binge watch and I had seen this on my Netflix suggestions for ages now. It looked like it would be right up my street so I don’t know why I hadn’t started it sooner, but I’m glad I have because it really is my cup of tea! It’s the perfect mix of fairytale mixed with the seriousness of modern day, and so far I’m really loving the story line.

The Grinch

It has actually taken me until this Christmas to finally watch the new Grinch movie, and it definitely did not disappoint. I love the Jim Carey Grinch, so I think I was just a bit sceptical as to whether this version could compete. I’ve really enjoyed watching this over the past month, and I have actually watched it quite a few times now.

Annie

An absolute classic film I used to LOVE as a child is Annie. I was so happy when I discovered it was on Netflix and I just had to watch it. It’s such a good film, and I love the musical numbers in it! Definitely a must-see if you haven’t already!

What have you been enjoying on Netflix recently?

Until next time.

  2. Some great ones on this list. It is such a shame that they have taken Gossip Girl off…I loved that show! The new Grinch movie was good, although I do love the Jim Carey one a bit more!
    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Gossip Girl is also one of my favorite shows! I love living vicariously through the Upper East Siders. I think we have similar taste, as I have really been enjoying Bridgerton.

  4. I’m forcing myself to not watch Bridgerton until my exams have finished which is a definite struggle but in less than a week I’ll be able to see what the hype is about! New Girl is one of my favourite programmes, I’m about to start rewatching it from the beginning too xx

  5. I absolutely loved Bridgerton and wanted more episodes. I did not want it to end. The revelation at the end had me absolutely shaken!! I can’t bear the wait for future seasons- checking out the books to get my fix in the mean time😂

  6. I turned on Bridgerton just because I was bored and figured why not… I have to say, I was totally surprised. I thought it was just going to be background noise but I wound up getting completely hooked on it. Now I’ve binged the whole season and wish that there was more to see!

  7. I watched Bridgerton because I am a massive period drama fan but it left me a bit cold. The main couple was boring and not very nice people. I was happy that they got together so nobody else would have to torture themselves by having a relationship with them 😀 The side characters were far more interesting. Eloise and Penelope could have their own show! The sets and costumes were beautiful and despite the flat storyline it’s still worth watching!

  8. I didn’t know Annie was on Netlix, defnintely need to give that a watch now! I used to LOVE that film. Hehe, I’m afraid I’m in the few that hasn’t seen Bridgerton yet – though I’m hoping to start it today. Thanks for sharing! x

  9. I really need to watch Bridgerton and see what all the hype is about! My boyfriend and I are still cracking on with How To Get Away With Murder – we’re on the last series and I don’t want it to end. I’ve just started watching Away and I’m really enjoying it! x

  10. Great post! I loved Bridgerton, just what I needed to relieve lockdown stress. Been watching Big Mouth on Netflix recently, it’s disgusting at times but also hilarious. Outside of Netflix I’ve been watching A Teacher on BBC Iplayer – less funny and more hard hitting but still a good watch

  11. Someone recommended Once Upon a Time to me earlier so I’m definitely going to add it to my list. I watched Back to Life, Virgin River and am currently watching Ratched, but it’s a bit close to the bone for me. I spent most of my time with my hand over my screen.

  12. I actually tried to watch Bridgerton, but the period inaccurate costumes really threw me off! It’s always a bummer when small details ruin the immersion, y’know?

  13. Honestly the amount of shows that I have on my watchlist is insane, one of them being Bridgeton, which I’ll watch at some point (when that’ll be who knows haha). Netflix has definitely been a saviour during lockdown, so I really liked this post!

  15. I used to regularly watch Once Upon a Time so this has reminded me to catch up with what I’ve missed of it! I haven’t yet got on to watching Bridgerton but I’ve heard some mixed/interesting/good things about it. Thanks for the viewing inspiration!
