Summer evening skincare routine

For me, the start of summer always comes with an updated skincare routine. In the winter, I really can’t be bothered with it I’m not going to lie. I just want to go round my face with a quick wipe to remove some makeup, and that’s about it, before jumping into bed. Summer, however, is a whole different kettle of fish. After spending a day in the heat with a full face of makeup on, I cannot wait to get home and give my skin a proper scrub. I know a lot of people tend to tone down the makeup in the summer, and I will admit I tend to wear a little less, however I don’t feel comfortable going to work without anything on my face so for now I’ll just have to suffer through the sweat!

I’ve suffered over the past few years with quite a few breakouts and problem areas, particularly on my chin. After a bit of research I’ve put this down to hormones, as it tends to be around my chin at certain times of the month. I’ve seen a vast improvement over the past few months (although face coverings haven’t helped) and my acne scars are slowly starting to become less visible. I suffer with the odd breakout now and again, but it’s nothing compared to what it was when I used to get 3-4 a week.

You may have seen recently that I bought a load of new skincare bits (see haul here) to try out, and I’ve loved using the vast majority of them. Here’s what I’ve been using recently which I think has helped….

Cleansers

For cleansers I’ve been loving the E.L.F Holy Hydration makeup melting balm. This does exactly what it says on the tin – it melts makeup away! This is a really good dupe of the Elemis cleansing balm, which I love but it costs a bomb. This one is a fraction of the price and I’ve found it works just as well.

After I’ve washing this away, I go in with the Body Shop tea tree skin clearing facial wash. This is really great for helping reduce blemishes. I use this in conjunction with my Foreo Mini which I am obsessed with. I got this in an advent calendar a few years ago and have only just starting using it in my everyday routine. This gives a really gentle exfoliation whilst making sure the cleanser is worked right into your pores.

Exfoliators

Every few days I like to give my face a good scrub with the E.L.F exfoliating scrub. This is a lovely exfoliator and really feels like it’s scrubbing your face. I don’t really like scrubs that aren’t very coarse and don’t feel like they’re doing anything. This tube is absolutely massive so will last a really long time.

Once a week I’ve been obsessed with using the PMD microdermabrasion device, which you can read about here. I was kindly gifted this about a year ago, and I used it a couple of times for review purposes and then it got put in a drawer and forgotten about. I’ve recently rediscovered it and have been using it religiously every week for the past 6 or so weeks. I can see a MASSIVE improvement in my skin’s appearance, particularly my blemishes and scars, and it’s helped reduce blackheads too. It’s really satisfying to see what the device has managed to suck out of my skin, and my face feels really polished afterwards.

Toners, serums and moisturisers

I’ve currently been using the Body Shop tea tree toner which I really love. It does cause a tiny bit of redness after I’ve used it but I think that’s down to the tea tree being quite strong.

In the evenings I like to alternate between using an overnight hydrating mask and a serum. I’m currently using the Superdrug vitamin E leave on moisture mask, which makes my skin really soft, and the Revolution blemish and pore refining serum. I really like this product – it’s not sticky and sinks into the skin quickly.

Eye cream

Every night I use the E.L.F Holy Hydration eye cream. This is really moisturising and doesn’t feel too heavy or sticky under the eyes. It’s definitely helped my eyes to appear a little brighter.

Face mask

Every week I like to have a little pamper and put on a face mask. I’m usually drawn to the blemish/detox type ones, and I really love these 2 from Loreal. They were really inexpensive from my local B&M – I think around £4 each? So super budget friendly as a little bit goes a long way with these. They really feel like they’re pulling all the rubbish out of your pores, and they leave your face feeling squeaky clean.

And there you have it – my updated summer skincare routine! What are your favourite products to use in the summer, and have you tried any of these? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time.

  1. Ooooh there’s a lot of products here that I haven’t used before. I’ve only used the loreal masks, which have been amazing. It’s funny I’ve not tried anything else tbh as everything you’ve mentioned I’ve heard such rave reviews of. The Body Shop tea tree collection and vitamin E moisturisers have got to be up there with things I try next.

  2. Great routine! I use the L’Oréal clay mask too and love it. I could do with a good eye cream though so I’ll definitely check this one out 😊

  3. Your evening skincare routine sounds lovely. I love The Bodyshop for skincare. I cleanse every night and cream up but I don’t exfoliate – that’s actually the one area that I need to give more focus to!

  4. I’m exactly like you, can never be bothered doing skincare in winter but summer time I’ve definitely stepped it up. There’s quite a few products on here that I’ve not tried out, so will keep my eyes out for them when out and about xx

  5. I’ve used the Tea Tree cleanser before and loved it. I also currently use that Revolution serum and ADORE it. It’s something I’ll buy again and again. You can’t go wrong with Superdrug own brand ranges either. I’m currently using one of their night creams and it’s honestly the best smell EVER.

  6. Posts like these are so helpful for someone like me! I’m not the greatest at skincare routines so I like learning from other people. I love the Body Shop’s tea tree oil products too 🙂
