It’s half-term, and you’ve exhausted all of the usual kids days out trying to keep your little ones – and yourselves – occupied. However this is no ordinary half term….It’s Halloween! Why not get out and do something extra spooky this Halloween!? I’ve put together a little list of 5 events on this half-term in the Somerset and Devon areas that you really don’t want to miss out on. There are things for all ages so without further ado, let’s get into it!
Wookey hole
Starting with a classic, Wookey Hole are bringing back their annual Halloween events for 2021. Wookey is known to be home to the famous Wookey Witch, who will be in her Halloween grotto making all sorts of potions in her bubbling cauldron. Included in the price is the usual tour around the caves (with added spookiness), haunted pirate golf, Halloween circus show, chilling crazy mirrors and much more.
These spooky events are running from 23rd-31st October.

Bear town
As I mentioned in another post, Bear Town is a mini town for your little ones to explore and role play. Between 16th-31st October your little ones can enjoy their 2 hour play session along with Halloween treasure hunt, Halloween treats and spooky dressing up – all included in the standard ticket price.
“Bear Town will enjoy a gentle Halloween makeover suitable for the youngest explorers with only friendly ghosts invited!”
This is only available up to age 7, so it’s perfect for smaller children to explore without fear of the ‘big kids’ getting in the way!
Thurloxton Farm, Taunton
Each year Thurloxton Farm on the outskirts of Taunton opens the gates the it’s very own pumpkin patch! This year they’re going all out, because as well as picking your own pumpkin (1 per ticket), they have set a spooky walk and a carving barn where the children can carve their pumpkins! There are also lots of games set up, including a ‘Hit the Witch’ giant apple catapult.

Paignton zoo
During half term enjoy some frightening Halloween fun at Paignton Zoo. Between 23rd-31st October children are invited to visit the zoo wearing their most frightening fancy dress! As well as the zoo’s day to day animal talks, there will be a free Wizard Workshop between 10.30am and 4pm where, whilst joined by some spooky characters, children can make their very own spooky spell bookmark to take home. There’s no need to book for this activity, although you will need to pre-book your visit to the zoo to avoid disappointment.
Halloween 2021 at Shepton Mallet Prison
One for the adults (15+) is this frightening event taking place at the famous Shepton Mallet Prison. Between 21 Oct – 31 Oct the prison is delivering a collection of, unique, immersive events that will set your heart racing. From zombies to hunters, this 4-floor escape room is one you won’t want to miss.

What spooky events are on your list this year? Be sure to let me know what you get up to!
Until next time.
