The Be Unapologetically You tag

I feel like tag posts were such a big thing when I first started blogging, and it’s been quite a while since I took part in one. I’ve done quite a few in the past, including the Tolkein Tag, Sunshine Blogger Award and even a Christmas tag or two!

I was tagged by the lovely Izzy Matias (check out her post) to do the Be Unapologetically you tag, which is all about sharing the things that make you happy and inspire you to be a better person. This is something I want to focus on in 2022 so I feel like this is a great start.

The Be Unapologetically You Tag rules:

  1. Use the Be Unapologetically You banner in your post. It can be your featured image or not. It’s totally up to you.
  2. Include the link to this blogging tag in your post.
  3. Answer the 7 questions in this tag.
  4. Nominate between 5-10 bloggers, link their blogs, and tag them on social media to notify them.
  5. Most of all, have fun!

Be Unapologetically You Questions:

  1. Introduce yourself and your blog while sharing one trivia about you that not that many people know.
  2. What topics do you love geeking out about that you would say are topics that give you bliss?
  3. Do you blog about them? Why or why not? If not, would you like to blog about them one time?
  4. Would you say that you are living life by being unapologetically you? Why or why not? If not, what would your life look like if you were unafraid to share more about the things that make you happy?
  5. Permission to geek out & be unapologetically you: share with us one thing you fangirl or fanboy over and how you became a fan of it. It can be anything. Your love for soy candles, your favorite food, a boy band or an underrated film.
  6. What do you love the most about being a fan?
  7. Share a fun or unforgettable fan experience.

Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Question 1 – Introduce yourself and your blog while sharing one trivia about you that not that many people know.

I’m Ellie, a lifestyle blogger from Somerset, UK. I work full time at a secondary school where I am a Science Technician, and I also have my own small business where I make candles and wax melts. I have 2 pets – a 13yr old cat called Layla and a 1yr old Syrian Hamster called Reggie.

I started my blog many years ago as a beauty blogger, but over time I branched out to now include so many more topics. I cover food, fashion, beauty, home, travel and even some pet related posts.

One thing you might not know about me is that I’m passionate about animals and conservation, and I actually have a degree in Wildlife Conservation.

Question 2 – What topics do you love geeking out about that you would say are topics that give you bliss?

Honestly, animals give me bliss. I’m always geeking out about new documentaries and I’m full of many odd little facts about random animals. I love to be around animals, especially cats, and they make me feel so calm. Like I said before, I’m passionate about animal conservation and the welfare of animals. A few years ago I helped out on a conservation project in Sri Lanka and did a little solo travelling while I was there. I’d love to do something like this again in the future if and when the world is a bit more normal.

Question 3 – Do you blog about them? Why or why not? If not, would you like to blog about them one time?

I occasionally blog about pet related things, such as hauls and advice but in terms of conservation and the wider animal picture, I’m not sure it’s the kind of content I’d include on this blog. I could potentially create another blog dedicated to it but honestly, I don’t have the time for it. I also don’t feel I’m informed enough to be writing about it on that scale.

Question 4 – Would you say that you are living life by being unapologetically you? Why or why not? If not, what would your life look like if you were unafraid to share more about the things that make you happy?

I can honestly say yes. There’s not a lot about myself and my interests that I feel like I need to hide. I’m not really an over the top fangirl about anything, so I don’t feel embarrassed to share things I like.

I think as long as you’re not harming anyone, why hide yourself? If I share a LOTR meme with someone who’s never seen it, who cares? No adult I know would say “you like that, so I’m not going to talk to you again”!?

I’m careful not to overshare though. I find it annoying when an account I follow is constantly sharing stuff about things that don’t interest me – like Star Wars for example – when that’s not what they were doing when I followed them. Or if someone is always talking to you about something you really don’t care about and is going on and on about it. I know when to shut up! Haha.

Question 5 – Permission to geek out & be unapologetically you: share with us one thing you fangirl or fanboy over and how you became a fan of it. It can be anything. Your love for soy candles, your favourite food, a boy band or an underrated film.

Two things I am a complete fangirl of are Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Growing up with Harry Potter I’m bound to love it, like a lot of people my age. I’ve never let my love for it go and while I wouldn’t say I’m fully obsessed with it, it’s still one of my absolute favourite things to watch to escape into another world for a while.

I’m not sure how I got into LOTR, as none of my family members or friends have ever seen it. For some reason I had the first film on video when I was younger (showing my age I know), I think my Dad bought it for me from a charity shop and thought I’d like it – even though I was only about 9. I remember watching that film repeatedly, not seeing the other 2 at this point. After a few years I got the set of DVDs and watched them over and over again. Although it can be lonely having no-one in my real life liking something, I’ve met so many people online that are even more obsessed with it than I am.

Question 6 – What do you love the most about being a fan?

One of my favourite things about being a fan of LOTR is that there is always something to learn. The world of LOTR lore is absolutely huge, and the films only cover the tiniest portion of it. I love having something that I can fully immerse myself in and a whole other world to escape to.

Question 7 – Share a fun or unforgettable fan experience.

I don’t have any! 😦

  1. Thanks for the tag. I enjoyed reading your post. It’s funny I just finished rewatching the LOTR movies a couple of days ago, and I introduced my youngest son to Harry Potter over the holidays. I’ve seen them all, but we recently watched the first 5 movies together. We all need a little magic don’t we? 😊

  2. Thank you too for answering my tag, Ellie! I love Harry Potter as well and it’s my comfort film series. Which is your fave HP film? ☺️ I didn’t know you had a Wildlife Conservation degree. Really cool! I only watched the LOTR films a few years ago when my friends and I started a LOTR movie marathon when they heard I had not watched any of the films! 🙂

  3. I love your tag post. These are so much fun and you get to learn so much about other bloggers.

It’s amazing you have a degree in a field you love and your love for animals is cute. I haven’t watched LOTR and my hubby thinks it’s a travesty! He absolutely loves it.
